Delaware Valley Kissing Bug Pest Control & Extermination

Kissing bugs can be 14 to 24 mm long with a short, thin beak for sucking blood from hosts. These bugs got their name because they are known to draw blood from the face of the victim. They are commonly known as cone-nose bugs from their elongated, cone shaped heads. They are dark colored, usually brown or black. Some species have red, yellow, or tan markings on the abdomen. Females lay eggs in the spring. After hatching, immature nymphs require a blood meal each time they shed their skin and grow larger.

Kissing bugs rely on a blood meal from around the lips, face, hands, feet, head and other parts of the body. These pest typically feed on sleeping victims, similar to bed bugs. Symptoms range from itching, swelling, and other allergic reactions simlar to bites from mosquitoes or spiders. Kissing bugs have defecate while they consume a blood meal. Cone-nose bugs can carry Trypanosoma cruzi, also called Chagas disease, in their feces. Scatching the bites can introduce the feces and diease into the body. There is currently no vaccination to protect against Chagas disease for pets or humans, but if the disease is recognized and treated in its early stage a full recovery is possible.

How Did I Get Kissing Bugs?

Bright porch and doorway lighting often lures kissing bugs inside homes. These insects feed on pets, so outdoor cats or dogs can also bring bugs inside. The following steps will help reduce their populations within the home.

Kissing Bug Protection Program

Our year-round protection program eliminates your current kissing bug problem and helps to prevent any future kissing bug outbreaks. Most kissing bug infestations originate outside, which is why we treat both the inside and outside of the home, ensuring total control. The interior of the home will be treated to stop kissing bugs as they attempt to enter your home. Next, your technician will focus on the perimeter of the home and outlying areas of the yard. Future service treatments will be exterior-only, without requiring you to be home or having to worry about scheduling conflicts. If kissing bugs should happen to show up between services, just give us a call – with our ant protection program, homeowners have the peace of mind that a professional will be available for emergency retreatments between regular visits.

Kenny is awesome. He gets rid of our pest problems, knows the business, and can answer any questions we have. (He’s also just a nice person in general.) We’re happy with all of Patriot’s service people, but Kenny has been a lifesaver for us this summer.
